How To Break Into The Telesales Market

Getting a retail job is usually a lot easier than most. You simply walk into the store that you wish to work at and ask for an application. Getting a job in the telesales market can be much more difficult. The nature of their business gives you no store to walk into and ask for an application and often times the telesales employees can't reveal who they work for over the phone. Because of these hurdles one can find it quite hard to break into the telesales market and find a job that suits them. In reality there are a couple different paths one can try to get the job in telesales they've been looking for.

The first and most obvious way to get into telesales is to become a telemarketer. While telemarketers are arguable the lowest ranking telesales employees it is sometimes a good place to start but there are also some pitfalls to it. The benefit is that it will allow you to be in the market and be in an environment where you can be moved up into a position you really want. The downside is a lot of telemarketing positions have no room for advancement and if you do it's usually into a management position. If you want to break into telesales via a telemarketing position it's usually rather easy to find the companies and contact them through the Internet. Before you take the job however it's important to ask the interviewer what the opportunities for advancement are and if they don't suit what you need don't be afraid to walk away right there.

The second and more difficult but rewarding route is to find a telesales company that you would like to work for. This is more rewarding because you can bypass the menial and boring job of being a telemarketer and jump directly in to the type of telesales position you want but it's also much more difficult to find the companies because they aren't as large and easy to contact as some of the telemarketing companies. The best way to find these people is through private ads, online websites such as Monster.com and even by using a private firm that specializes in finding jobs for people. There is no sure fire way to get directly into the telesales position you want and sometimes having experience as a telemarketer will look good on your resume and increase your odds of getting a job.

If what you really want to do is work in telesales then don't let the difficulty of finding an employer stop you. Explore all outlets and make sure you have exhausted all resources before you give up. Either get in a related industry for experience and contacts or be persistent with your goal of finding a telesales job right off the bat. If you can get any sort of experience in sales it will look good on your resume and even taking a telesales training class can give you a major advantage over others, even if you have no experience. Telesales is a great industry to work in but it can be difficult to get your first job. Once you break into the market advancing is easy.
